Think of fairly common names that are also words that are things other than names. I am thinking of--and these will show my age--Art, Rose, Randy, Will, Sandy, Melody, Bill, Frank, Violet, Ray, Mike, Robin, Daisy, Fern, Buck, Tom, Dolly, Pat, Nick, John, and Peg. There are many more, especially if you start thinking of names that are more contemporary and/or just less traditional: Prince, Star, Clover, Nova, Briar, Ash, Justice, Cricket, Angel, as well as a variety of the place names that parents have used for names. These include countries (India, China), cities (Paris, London, Madison, Denver), and states (Dakota, Florida).
For your creative endeavor today, pick a handful of these names and use them in your piece,
not as names, but as nouns/adjectives. Be sure to mix it up! Don't just use the names of flowers, for example. Use some old ones and some newer ones, nouns, places, and adjectives.
If you want to challenge yourself even more, create a sheet with as many of these as you can think of and find. Then cut up the paper so you have small scarps with one of these words on each piece. Put them in a bag or bowl, randomly choose ten, and then use those ten.
Have fun!
