Maybe it's because I posted a poem about submarine warfare. Or maybe because I always long for the ocean. It could be because I just finished reading a wonderful book by Rebecca Boyle, Our Moon: How Earth's Celestial Companion Transformed the Planet, Guided Evolution, and Made Us Who We Are, and that, I think, is what caused my two most recent poems to be about celestial events.
But you don't necessarily want to know where I get my inspiration for prompts, right?
So let's get to it!
For this prompt, I would like you to consider both the ocean and the sky, and put them both into your piece. This can be done in any way you like; I have certainly seen lots of paintings of the moon above an ocean beach or a European river.
And that is a fine thing to do. But you can also challenge yourself a bit more and create a metaphoric piece that compares the beings of water to those in the sky. Or maybe look back--way back--to what our Stone Age ancestors might have thought about the mysteries in both. Or maybe your piece will only mention the Milky Way and the Pacific Ocean in passing.
As always, it is your call! Have fun!
