April 3: Poetry Prompt: The You You Used to Be
Updated: Apr 6, 2019
Write a poem in which you use a persona--in this case, your younger self. You can make it as "truthful" as you like, but have something in the poem that is true to your experience.
Some suggestions: first time staying in a hotel, having to change a diaper as a babysitter, seeing a dead body, early experience with racism, being bullied, being a bully, seeing a parent cry, watching an animal give birth, learning to ride a bike, living through an abusive home life, falling in love with books, learning gender roles, first kiss, etc.
There is an opportunity here to be very playful and write a fun/funny poem or to be very circumspect and write a devastating poem.
